Yalçın Otağı

Yalçın Otağı, who made Turkey laugh for years as one half of the duo "Ateş Böcekleri" (The Fireflies) with Ercan Bostancıoğlu, shared the stage with names like Zeki Müren, Bülent Ersoy and Emel Sayın in the golden age of Turkish variety theatre. With his wife, the performer Lale Belkıs, he spent his later years in Datça, which they loved. He died in August 2014, aged 78, of liver cancer at the hospital in Marmaris where he was being treated, and was laid to rest in Datça.

A part of the history of Turkish entertainment chose Datça as his final stop; his grave is in the district today. That a name from the loudest years of the stage sought his quiet here is one more example of what Datça has meant to artists.
