Oğuz Tığlı
Painter, watercolour master · ?–2025
Remembered as "the Painter of Datça", Oğuz Tığlı was one of the first painters to establish a studio in the district. Known for his mastery of watercolour, he carried Datça's natural and historic beauty onto canvas and, through his studio, mentored a new generation of painters. He died in January 2025, aged 90, at his home in the İskele neighbourhood; after funeral prayers at Fatih Mosque he was buried in İskele Cemetery.
Héritage
He had a share in painting's becoming a school rather than a pastime in Datça: his studio functioned like one of the town's first art schools. He worked to the last days of his ninety years; the watercolours he left behind are among the most faithful records of the peninsula's light.
