Mehmet Ali Ağa (Tuhfezâdeler)

"Kocaev" — the Great House — on the highest point of Reşadiye, today known as the Mehmet Ali Ağa Mansion, was built in 1809 by Mehmet Halil Ağa of the Tuhfezâde family, the local ayan (provincial notables), and took its name from his son Mehmet Ali Ağa. For two centuries the mansion was the family's seat and one of the centres of the peninsula's socio-economic life. Reflecting the power and taste of an ayan family in the Ottoman provinces, it is among the oldest surviving examples of civil architecture not just in Datça but in the region; rescued from near collapse, it was restored and reopened in 2004 as a certified heritage hotel.

After Hızırşah, his is the second name on the peninsula to live on through a building across six generations. The mansion still receives visitors as the most magnificent example of Datça's stone architecture; the meticulous restoration that carried an ayan family's house into the future is regarded as a forerunner and inspiration of the stone-house revivals of Old Datça.
