Knidoslu Eudoksos

Born in the ancient city of Knidos on the Datça Peninsula, Eudoxus was one of the greatest astronomers and mathematicians of Ancient Greece. A pupil of Plato, he developed the first advanced geometric model of celestial motion — the theory of "homocentric spheres". The theory of proportions today known as the "Archimedean axiom" also derives from his work.

As the Knidian scholar who built the first mathematical model of the universe, he shows that ancient Datça was a centre not only of art but of science. His name holds a permanent place in the history of astronomy and mathematics.
