Halikarnas Balıkçısı

A pioneer of the "Blue Anatolia" humanist movement (his real name was Cevat Şakir Kabaağaçlı), this writer brought the Datça Peninsula and Knidos into Turkish literature. He wrote about the Aphrodite of Knidos and described the peninsula as "Anatolia's tongue speaking at Knidos". Placing the sea and coastal people at the centre of his work, he endeared the peninsula's ancient value to a wide readership. (He mainly resided in Bodrum; his tie to Datça is literary and intellectual.)

He turned Knidos and the Datça Peninsula into a symbol of the "Blue Cruise" culture and Anatolian humanism. His writings remain one of the intellectual foundations of today's cultural interest in Datça's ancient heritage.
