Şadan Gökovalı

Known as the "spiritual son" of Halikarnas Balıkçısı, the writer, journalist and tour guide Prof. Şadan Gökovalı carried the love of Blue Anatolia he inherited from his mentor into dozens of books and thousands of journeys, and laboured greatly for the promotion of ancient Knidos. He died in 2021, aged 82, at the hospital where he was being treated. After his death the Datça Municipal Council voted unanimously to rename Yeni Çeşme Street "Şadan Gökovalı Street".

He is the second link in the intellectual chain that began with Halikarnas Balıkçısı: through his books and his guiding he endeared Knidos and the Carian shores to generations. The street bearing his name in Datça marks the peninsula's gratitude for that inheritance.
